Walk/Transit Journey – More Than a Stop: Stories Along the Line
Saturday, November 21, 2026 | 10 AM – 1 PM
Starts at Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Station (A/C Lines)

Join Los Angeles Walks, BikeLA, the Willowbrook Inclusion Network, and the Florence-Firestone Community Organization for a community transit journey through Willowbrook, Florence-Firestone and Watts. Along the way, we’ll take in neighborhood history, housing, public art, and the everyday places that bring people together. Through transit, photography, and conversation, we’ll imagine how our stations can be more than places we pass through: places where community, culture and collective care thrive.

The route:

  • Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Station: Refreshments and introductions
  • Florence Station: A community guide shares the area’s history and its affordable housing developments
  • Watts Towers: Visit the towers and the surrounding neighborhood
  • Back to Willowbrook/Rosa Parks: A photo-storytelling exercise and group reflections

This will be a relaxed, accessible walk with plenty of room for conversation and connection. All are welcome.

Mike Norice Mural at Century and Alameda in Watts

65, 92, 20

I led a driving tour of Florence-Firestone and Watts for Jacob, Terry, and Mike The Poet. Jacob is doing a master’s in urban planning at USC Price. His dad, Terry, is a therapist who’s worked in Watts. Mike linked us up. Everyone learned about the birth of Embedded Planning praxis in Florence-Firestone.

There’s a Mike Norice mural outside the new Starbucks at Century & Alameda. A portion reads: 65, 92, 20.

65 = 1965 Watts Uprising

92 = 1992 LA Uprising

20 = 2020 George Floyd Uprisings
